VAN DER GOOT – MERAUKE – F/VF_x000D_ After WWII and the independence of Indonesia the Dutch government tried to prevent that the Netherlands Indies NICA series would go into circulation in Netherlands New Guinea. These notes could only be exchanged for the new Netherlands New Guinea gulden notes of 1950 with special stamps on them placed by Dutch instutions on the island. Van der Goot was the resident of South New Guinea. These stamped notes are considered to be the first Netherlands New Guinea circulating banknotes predating the 1950 series.
