Gerspacher - 25 mm. tear upper margin, 15 mm. tear lower margin - uniface - VF / extremely rare - Emergency notes of the island of Schiermonnikoog take a special place within the Dutch emergency money from WW II. These notes were not issued by the Dutch authorities but by the German commander of the island: Kapitänleutnant A. Rehm. Due to the hard winter of 1940/1941 the ferry was not able to go from the mainland to Schiermonnikoog and German soldiers could not get their pay. Therefore Rehm decided to issue emergency notes of 1 and 10 Gulden. Afterwards these notes could be redeemed at the commander’s office. Probably almost all notes have been handed in except for a 1 Gulden Serie A 98 and this one.
