AR large fanam of 6 stivers (1.03 g.) & AR fanam or puttan (0.28 g.) ND. Obv. Representing degenerated figure of the goddess Kali with shanka shell on breast / rev. Lazy J with 12 dots below and O C (Oostindische Compagnie) above. (Scho. 1234, KM.30, Beeldenaar 1985-3 afb. 24; Scho. 1250, KM.8 (Cochin) As early as 1675, silver coins were struck at Negapatnam. These were the large silver fanams of 6 stivers, which were intended for export to Ceylon, Cochin and the Pearl Fishery (Tuticorin). The small fanam of the same type appears to have been struck only for Cochin and were known as Puttan. Lot of 2 coins, average VF
