1890/1894 - Medal 'Medaille voor Verdiensten ten opzigte van 's Rijks Verzamelingen van Wetenschap en Kunst' (later: Museummedaille) by W. Schammer (vgl. Zw.411/973) - Obv. Long haired portrait of Queen Wilhelmina to the left / Rev. Text AAN J.R. STUURMAN within wreath and legend - bronze 50 mm 59,51 gram - XF - NB Stuurman was Controleur bij het Binnenlands Bestuur van Nederlands Indië in Sipirok (Tapanuli, Sumatra). By Royal Decree of December 1, 1894, the award was given to him, A.D. Valk and A.H. Vorstman for their donation to the Museum of Natural History at the Utrecht University of 'zeer gewenscht en zeer kostbaar materiaal voor embryologische onderzoekingen' (material for embryologic research) from the Dutch Indies. According to the Staatsblad, they were awarded the silver medal. NB A seperate reverse die had to be made for each beneficiary of this type of medals.
