Etruria / Volsinii - Aes Grave As (c. 280-224 BC, 213.48g) - Forepart of boar left / Spearhead (left) (Thurlow/Vecchi 75 / Sydenham Aes Grave 171 / Haeb. PL 92 / cf. HN Italy 215) - VF, brown-green patina. The attribution by Haeberlin to Volsinii is based on excavations in that city, while Sydenham attributes this piece to Apulia due to the boar's head on the obverse. Either way, this is an extremely rare specimen, seldom offered at auction.
