1/4 or 1/8 Groot ND unknown in literature (VdCh. -) – 0.28 gram – Obv. Mitered family coat of arms ARNO – EPS… / Rev. Short cross pattée with pellet in centre MONETA • NO…… - F/VF - RRRR – of the highest rarity, possibly unique and never offered by us before - Arnold van Hoorne was zowel in Utrecht (1371-1379) als Luik (1378-1389) bisschop en heeft in beide periodes munten laten slaan. Dit munttype komt echter niet in Van der Chijs en Dengis voor en de muntplaats is niet leesbaar. Toch zijn wij er van overtuigd dat het muntje in Utrecht is geslagen. In de eerste plaats het gebruik van het woord NO(VA) in het omschrift op de keerzijde. Voor munten geslagen in Utrecht is dit gebruikelijk, voor Luikse munten is dit niet veel voorkomend. Verder past de kwart of 1/8 Groot naadloos in de muntreeks zoals die in Utrecht door een van Arnolds voorgangers, Jan van Arkel, is uitgebracht. De beeltenis (Van der Chijs 10.15-16) hiervan komt overeen met dat van het hier aangeboden muntje. Arnold van Hoorne was bishop of both Utrecht (1371-1379) and Liège (1378-1389) and had coins minted in both periods. However, this coin type does not appear in Van der Chijs and Dengis and the mint is illegible. Nevertheless, we are convinced that the coin was minted in Utrecht. Firstly, the use of the word NO(VA) in the legend on the reverse. This is common for coins minted in Utrecht, but not common for Liège coins. Furthermore, the quarter or 1/8 Groot fits seamlessly into the coin series issued in Utrecht by one of Arnold's predecessors, Jan van Arkel. The effigy (Van der Chijs 10.15-16) of this coin matches that of the coin offered here.
