Siege coinage - 12½ Stuiver 1672 square flan (Delm. 738 / CNM 2.20.4 / HPM Go 19) - Pierced and ring-mounted to antique chain - Total 18.01 gram - Obv. arms of Groningen / Rev. engraved GRONINGEN / CONSTANDT / BEHOUDT / VAN T LANDT - Normal size crown - VF - No other siege had such a numismatic nachleben as that of Groningen in 1672. A large amount of the siege-style pieces were subsequently and on a large scale engraved, often with standardized inscriptions. This particular creed, referring to the steadfastness of the city, appears on multiple examples and is said to have originated from the Stadholder Willlem III himself. While engraved pieces are known from all denominations, the 12½ is seen much less frequently.
