AR Medal nd. (ca. 1837) of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (ZENO 365201) - Obv: 12-pointed sun-burst star with the portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh facing right in the centre / Rev: Inscription within a twelve pointed star 'Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bahadur Wali-i-Punjab' - silver 2.87 g.; 21.5 mm - a.XF, according to Hans Herrli (p. 265) this medal is probably one brought by General Allard from France which is indeed confirmed by the mint mark ‘H’ of the mint of La Rochelle (France). This small medal proves also to be the centre piece of the Order of Merit, “Kaukab-i-Iqbal-i-Punjab”, instituted on 8 March 1837 and awarded to General Allard by Ranjit Singh
