A collection including 8 “monnaie d’huitre” primitive monies from the Mongo/Ngandu peoples of the Congo; 20 old ring talismans (HRKMO) from Axum, Tigray Region, Northern Ethiopia; and 16 cowrie shell monies once widely circulated across Africa. Together these pieces represent diverse forms of value and exchange, from utilitarian shell currency to prestige talismans, illustrating the variety of African monetary traditions
