A pair of small shallow dishes decorated with 'The Parasol Ladies' after a design by Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) in underglaze blue. The design was sent to Batavia in 1735 where it arrived in 1736. The High Government ordered porcelain conform to these drawings in both China and Japan. There are different varieties done in Imari, overglaze enamels as well as in underglaze blue. The ladies in the Japanese versions were slightly different, wearing kimono's and typical Japanese hair styles.
