British comic book artist John Bolton is best known for his highly detailed painted style and atmospheric storytelling. He worked for major publishers including Marvel Comics and DC Comics on titles such as Classic X-Men, Hellblazer, and Books of Magic. _x000D_ A heroic character created by Robert E. Howard, Kull is a king whose adventures take place some 8000 years before the coming of Conan the Cimmerian. Bolton drew and inked this dramatic story page featuring Kull mourning the recent loss of his bethroted, the beautiful Sareena. The page measures 41 cm x 27,5 cm. All text balloons are pasted, with some partly lifting at the edges and one balloon missing. Light handling wear. Overall good condition. To be checked.

Esso Cartoon Tiger Advertising – Collection of 25 Original Illustrations and Production Stats (McCann Belgium, 1978). The Esso Cartoon Tiger became one of the most recognisable advertising figures of the post-war period. Developed and popularised by McCann-Erickson for Esso, the campaign was launched internationally in the mid-1960s under the slogan “Put a Tiger in Your Tank.” Adapted across European markets, including Belgium and Luxembourg, the tiger mascot came to symbolize energy, engine performance and a new, optimistic consumer culture. These preparatory drawings and studio materials, produced in the context of McCann’s work for the Belgian-Luxembourg market, testify to the local adaptation of a global advertising icon. Among the 25 works included in this lot is a particularly striking and unusually tall depiction of the iconic Esso Tiger, rendered in ink and mixed media on art paper mounted on rigid art board, with an image area measuring 31 × 66 cm. Also included are ten superb drawings executed in ink over graphite pencil on paper, depicting the famous tiger full-length in a variety of poses, each with an image area of approximately 18 × 24 cm. A vellum overlay bearing the orange marker colour layout accompanies each drawing. Two close-up studies of the tiger, executed in ink over graphite pencil, retain their original acetate overlays with orange marker colour indications. A particularly attractive layered montage composed of three original mixed-media illustrations depicts the celebrated mascot holding a coloured piggy bank on the lower movable panel, giving a thumbs-up on the second, and, in the final image (image area: 33 × 31 cm), holding a sheet of Esso trading stamps. Also present is a tiger head study on heavy paper, executed in charcoal and watercolour, with an image area of 22 × 19 cm. The lot is completed by thirteen studio production stats of the Esso Tiger, three mounted on acetate sheets and one accompanied by its original vellum overlay with orange marker colour layout.
