Early pattern "Hawley" cardboard M1 helmet liner, these are the first liners produced for the M1 helmet and replaced by the more common fibre liners, this one saw service an has the typical wear encountered on these pieces, interesting detail is the vertical officers "Follow me" bar painted on the back, in this case in red probably medical related, internal suspension present, small hole in the top, perfect to complete a helmet
