A rare hand carved, open worked wooden 'Prisoner of War' dip pen from the South African 'Boer War" (1899-1902), inscribed St. Helena, 1901. The British first sent prisoners of war to St. Helena on the ship SS Milwaukee which arrived in April 1900. The Boer prisoners were allowed to hand craft items with their pocket knife to make time pass and they were soon also allowed to sell their crafts to earn some money. -Exceptionally well carved and in pristine condition-
