A surviving fragment of a Roman military diploma, corner-piece, inscribed with Roman text and on the back text for Roman citizenship (ca. 3 x 4.5 cm.) - documents like these certified that the holder was honourably discharged from the Roman armed forces or that the holder was granted Roman citizenship from the emperor as reward for service.
