Renaissance fantasy didrachm depicting Scipio Africanus (236-183 BC, silver 26-28 mm, 6.21 g) - SIPIO - AFRICANVS Helmeted head right / AFRICA - RECEPTA Horse head right - a bold VF - rare - NB The coin is described in Philip Skippon 'An account of a journey made thro' part of the Low-Countries, Germany, Italy and France', first printed in London 1732. Skippon saw the coin on his 1663-1666 journey in the cabinet of apothecary Mapheus Casunus in Verona
