Lot 4237
20 Yen Meiji 3 (1870) (KM13, JDNA-01-1, Fr.45) - Obv: Dragon within beaded circle, legend around / Rev: Sunburst flanked by banners with chrysanthemum above - in NGC-slab graded MS62, lustrous and well struck. Notable as the first year in the Japanese 20 Yen gold series, this large specimen boasts spectacular design motifs. It is a scarce and popular type. The 1870 is the only year from this short-lived series that asserts a mintage over 1.000 pieces, making it, for all intents and purposes, the only collectible date of this issue. An altogether very attractive example of this coveted type
