Lot 7071

Lot 7071
AR Drachm (3.44 g.) - Obv: King on horseback to r. followed by ‘chatra’ bearer and filleted standard in front, with remnants of Brahmi letters of the issuer’s name / Rev: Fire altar (ZENO199211) - VF, a Hunnic coin of the highest rarity, probably unique A new and unpublished type which, according to Pankaj Tandon, appears to follow from the horseman type coins of Javukha/Zabocho [see Göbl, Dokumente 117-8 and 106; Pfisterer, Hunnen in Indien (2013) ) Abb. 3.7.31-33.]. Last visible part of the name is "ditya", which is a common name-ending in Alchon names. Purvvaditya, whose coins are in the same group as those of Javukha, is a possibility, but by no means the only one. Given that Javukha is mentioned in the Schøyen inscription, dated to c. 492 it is expected that the coin was made in the early part of the sixth century
