Naxos - AR Drachm (ca. 460 BC, 3.60 g) - Head of Dionysus right, bearded, wreathed with ivy, hair in bunch behind / N—AXI—ON Naked Silenus seated three-quarters to left on ground, head left, holding kantharos in raised right hand (SNG Lloyd 1152 / Jameson 676 / SNG ANS 518) - F/VF but very rare! Naxos was subject to the tyrants Hippokrates, Gelon and Hieron for much of the earlier part of the 5th century. It regained independency in 461 BC and was destroyed by Dionysios of Syracuse, 404 BC.
