Cilicia / Pompeiopolis - Hexassarion (year 311 = AD 245/6, 11.43 g) - AYT K IOY ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY ЄY CЄB Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip I to right / ΠΟΜΠΗΙΟΠΟΛΙΑΤ Bearded and draped bust of the philosopher Chrysippos to right, symbollic holding hand before his chin (SNG Levante 895 / SNG Paris 1254) - a.VF/good VF, an extremely rare coin with a nice portrait of Chrysippos of Soli. He was a Greek Stoic philosopher (ca. 279 - ca. 206 BC) born in Soli, Cilicia, who studied logic, the theory of knowledge, ethics and physics. He moved to Athens as a young man and became a pupil of Cleanthes in the Stoic school. After Cleanthes' dead, Chrysippus became the third head of the school. Nothing of his written works survived, except as fragments quoted by later authors. We believe this coin is the finest known.
