Lot 6568

Lot 6568
Pattern Centime 1807 - Pattern in copper (KM Pn1) - Obv: Bust Henri Christophe with hat facing / Rev: Value - NGC MS66 Red and Brown, a choice example of this rare and charming pattern, showing President (at the time, and future King beginning in 1811) Henri Christophe in full military uniform on the obverse. Recently published research by Lissade showed that these were commissioned in England, as were the patterns of finer style dated 1808. Interestingly, the denomination reads UNE CENTIEME (de Gourde), literally ONE HUNDREDTH (of a Gourde), an alternative spelling of the more common UN CENTIME, but not an error as often stated. Very rare and highly sought after, as are all early patterns from this Republic, which became independent as early as 1804
