Oord 1566 Weert (CNM - / PW 9702) - 3.55 gram - Obv. medlar flower and arms of Horne in renaissance cartouche, above WEERT and with the addition of 77 / Rev. date above lion and chevron in similar-styled cartouche - VF, usual edge cracks - with countermark spindle - RRR extremely rare - Ex. collection Vinkenborg - The oorden from Weert remain one of the most enigmatic of issues; it is theorized they were initially issued as low-denomation coinage, but quickly reused by the weaving industry in the town as an alternative to the lead seal attached to cloth.
