A very rare pair of Chinese porcelain cups and saucers decorated in underglaze blue depicting a scene of the 'Rotterdam Riot', also known as the 'Kosterman Uproar'. It shows the destruction of the house of Chief Bailiff Jacob Zuylen van Nyevelt by rioters on the night of October 5th, 1690. Van Nyevelt was blamed for the death of Cornelis Kosterman, a guard at the Rotterdam city hall who was accused of killing a clerk during a fight.
