A pair of Japanese pattipan of lobed oval shape in the style of Frederic van Frytom, decorated in underglaze blue depicting a European landscape scene with a horseman followed by two footmen crossing a bridge, the reverse with a six-character Chenghua mark. The shape and design was taken from a Dutch Delftware dish dated 1684. Identical dishes can be found in Burghley House, Stamford England and were published in 'The Burghley Porcelains: An Exhibition from the Burghley House Collection and Based on the 1688 Inventory and 1690 Devonshire Schedule', Japan Society, New York, 1986, page 158-160, no. 59 (the Burghley House collection) and in a private collection which is published in C.J.A. Jörg, 'Fine and Curious - Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections', Hotei Publishing , Leiden, 2003, page 244, no. 314, Japan, Arita, ca. 1700 -10,5 x 12,5 cm-
