WWII, Verwaltung Maison de Bonneterie Amsterdam Joseph Cohen in wartime; This document concerns the occurence of reappointing the management for the ‘Maison de Bonneterie’ business/organization during the German occupation, document date 12 juni 1941. The lot consists of photographical evidence regarding the Chamber of Commerce registration documents (Handelsregister van de kamer van Koophandel en fabrieken van Amsterdam) throughout the years of existence of this establishment, provided with stamps and seal. Maison de Bonneterie was a prestigious Dutch chain of fashion department stores. The first branch was opened in 1889 by entrepreneur Joseph Cohen & Rosa Wittgenstein. In January 1942, the Cohen family was given safe passage to Portugal in exchange for paintings and emigrated to the United States. The shops were closed and 66 of the employees, almost all of whom were Jewish, died in German camps during the war.
