Very interesting grouping of "General, Georges Deffontaine, 1882-1940+", consists of his footlocker and a binder with information, various documents and photo's, de General was a highly decorated and well known member of the Belgian army, veteran from the first world war, commander of the famous "Ardeense Jagers - Chasseurs Ardennais", and commander of the 7th army corps defending the city of Namen-Namur during the German invasion in 1940, the General was taken as POW to Offlag camp "Tibor" in modern day Poland, where he died of disease on 24th of September 1940, at the point of his dead he was considered the 2nd highest ranking officer in the Belgian army, in this lot is also a grave ribbon, from the camp where he was burried with military honor, the documents and photos are a combination of military and family related spanning a period from pre WWI to the late 1930's, very interesting and uncommon Generals grouping
