Kavel 503

Kavel 503
A large, attractive Merovingian bow fibula with semicircular head plate. This fibula is completely decorated with dot-circle decorations, typical of the early Middle Ages. The date of origin lies in the Merovingian period, the 6th century, and this spectacular piece may originate from the Eastern Germanic area. These fibulae were worn as a pair at the height of the shoulders and our piece was possibly owned by a high-status person, due to its length. Pin missing, otherwise a lovely and rare piece of Merovingian craftmanship, museum quality (found in The Netherlands, area of Pannerden, Gelderland) (c. 16,5 x 7,5 cm)
