For Marciana - AR Denarius (Rome AD 112, 2.29 g) - DIVA AVGVSTA MARCIANA Diademed and draped bust right / CONSECRATIO Eagle standing left on sceptre, head right and wings spread (RIC 743 / BMCRE 647) - a bold VF for this very rare coin, nice portrait though small flan and partially weak legend obv. - Ulpia Marciana, sister of Traianus, had a daughter, Matidia, who later became empress and the mother-in-law of Hadrianus. In AD 105 Marciana was given the title of Augusta, which she held until her death in probably AD 112. This title then passed to Matidia. To honour Marciana, the city of Marcianapolis (Moesia Inferior) was named after her.
